Green Greatness

Many awards were given out during our Academic Assembly on Thursday, March 19th. One of which I know was absolutely deserved: after much hard work, our Environmental Club was awarded the title of being the only Oregon Green School in Bend. The club president, Skyler Nelson, received the award.
But what does Oregon Green School do? Well, the organization’s website states that their mission is to help schools, “set up and maintain effective, permanent waste reduction and resource efficiency programs that improve schools and communities.” But what does it mean to be an Oregon Green School? The site also says that an Oregon Green School should have valuable “programs to recycle, reduce waste, save energy and conserve water.”
There was a lot of work in becoming an Oregon Green School. The Environmental Club had to basically go through the garbage, plus a sizeable amount of paperwork needed to be filled out for the application. But their hard work has finally paid off and now we can truly say that we are the eco-friendliest school around (in Bend, that is).
